Position Overview
A job opportunity has arisen at NPC, a member of Huaxin Cement Co. Ltd., in the Simuma Plant for a Lab Technician. Reporting to the Plant Chemist, the successful incumbent will be responsible for providing technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures as well as applicable health and safety guidelines.
Key Performance Areas
· Sample preparation, testing and storage:
· Ensure raw materials, intermediate and finished product are sampled and prepared for testing according to schedule and procedure
· Conduct chemical analysis and physical testing according to relevant procedures including but not limited to Cement testing, XRF, fineness, LOI
· Store retain samples in line with storage schedule and procedure
Reporting
· Ensure test results are updated and that relevant laboratory reports are generated on all work completed
· Highlight deviations promptly for corrective action to be taken as applicable
Miscellaneous activities
· Ensure ad-hoc tasks are completed as requested
· Ensure availability of lab consumables is constantly monitored and replenished as necessary.
· Arrange for creation of reservations and Purchase Requisitions when necessary
· Ensure housekeeping is maintained in the laboratory and storerooms
· Ensure the safety register is updated
· Ensure that all organization Safety, Health and Environmental systems and procedures are adhered to at all times
Education and Experience Requirements
· Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent
· Prepared to work shifts and overtime
· Computer literacy
· 3 years’ experience in a physical/analytical laboratory would be advantageous
Physical Requirements Will Include
· Sound physical and emotional fitness to suit shift work and physical nature of the job.

Position Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Customer Services Graduate within the Commercial Department at Natal Portland Cement (NPC), part of the Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. Group. The successful candidate will report directly to the Customer Services Supervisor.
The Customer Services Graduate is responsible for supporting call center operations, order management, and customer relationship management. The successful candidate will assist with responding to customer enquiries, capturing and processing orders accurately, maintaining customer records, and resolving customer queries and complaints. The role also involves providing administrative support, liaising with relevant departments, and contributing to improved customer satisfaction and effective service delivery.
Key Performance Areas
- Call Center Operations: Assist with handling incoming customer calls and enquiries, ensuring professional service and timely escalation of unresolved issues.
- Order Management: Capture customer orders and standing orders accurately, confirm delivery arrangements, and ensure order information is updated timeously.
- Customer Relationship Management: Maintain positive customer relationships, assist with resolving complaints, and support customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Customer Information Management: Maintain accurate customer records, including account details, delivery information, and pricing data.
- Customer Service Administration: Provide administrative support through data capturing, filing, report preparation, quotation assistance, and processing of new customer account applications.
- Interdepartmental Communication: Liaise with relevant departments to resolve customer, order, and delivery-related queries and support efficient service delivery.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Matric
- A Diploma or Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, Customer Service or a related field
- Experience in customer service, call center operations or administration would be advantageous
- Computer literacy including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of SAP will be advantageous.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
Our Internship Programme gives learners on-the-job learning opportunities and aims to help you qualify and become ready for employment in our industry. It brings together practical learning, dedicated monitoring and constructive feedback.
We look for learners who are driven, possess strong work ethic and communication skills, are adaptable and willing to learn and are able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
Internship Programme Requirements:
- Be an unemployed South African citizen. Preference will be given to historically disadvantaged South Africans.
- Completed a relevant qualification at a Higher Education and Training (HET) level OR completing a relevant qualification and work experience is required by your institution to obtain the qualification (a letter from the institution is required).

LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME
NPC’s Learnership Programme allows learners to be registered on an Artisan Development Learnership — a structured, occupationally-directed programme that leads to a qualification registered with the NQF and is trade related. This is a developmental opportunity requiring technical aptitude, interpersonal and innovative skills.
We look for candidates who are self-disciplined, willing to learn and have good communication skills.
The following trades are considered for this programme:
Learnership Programme Requirements:
- Be an unemployed South African citizen. Preference will be given to historically disadvantaged South Africans.
- Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics, Physical Science and English (must have passed all three).
- Possess any of the below qualifications:
- N2 Certificate including four relevant subjects: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing and related Trade Theory subject.
- Relevant Engineering NCV Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 4.
- Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, Language and related Trade Theory subject.
- Relevant N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S or N stream).
All applicants must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
Through this programme, it’s our aim to develop a talented pipeline of skilled individuals for the main business purposes of NPC and create opportunities for unemployed learners to gain competencies in the cement industry.

BURSARY PROGRAMME
NPC’s Bursary Programme assists unemployed learners by offering them the opportunity to pursue studies in Engineering and related fields at Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges, leading to careers in those fields.
Student Bursary Requirements:
- Be a previously disadvantaged South African with a valid South African ID.
- Excellent academic record with 70% average.
- Students wanting to study Engineering, Science or Technology.
- Acceptance to an established university or tertiary education facility.
- Must NOT be funded by NSFAS, or any other student funding.
The Following Disciplines Are Funded:
Other disciplines will be considered if you have a strong enough motivation.
The bursary award is based on the learner’s academic performance and is re-awarded for every year the learner remains enrolled, provided certain conditions are met.
