Lab Technician | Simuma Plant

Position Overview

A job opportunity has arisen at NPC, a member of Huaxin Cement Co. Ltd., in the Simuma Plant for a Lab Technician. Reporting to the Plant Chemist, the successful incumbent will be responsible for providing technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures as well as applicable health and safety guidelines.

Key Performance Areas

·         Sample preparation, testing and storage:

·         Ensure raw materials, intermediate and finished product are sampled and prepared for testing according to schedule and procedure

·         Conduct chemical analysis and physical testing according to relevant procedures including but not limited to Cement testing, XRF, fineness, LOI

·         Store retain samples in line with storage schedule and procedure

Reporting

·         Ensure test results are updated and that relevant laboratory reports are generated on all work completed

·         Highlight deviations promptly for corrective action to be taken as applicable

Miscellaneous activities

·         Ensure ad-hoc tasks are completed as requested

·         Ensure availability of lab consumables is constantly monitored and replenished as necessary.

·         Arrange for creation of reservations and Purchase Requisitions when necessary

·         Ensure housekeeping is maintained in the laboratory and storerooms

·         Ensure the safety register is updated

·         Ensure that all organization Safety, Health and Environmental systems and procedures are adhered to at all times

Education and Experience Requirements

·         Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent

·         Prepared to work shifts and overtime

·         Computer literacy

·         3 years’ experience in a physical/analytical laboratory would be advantageous

Physical Requirements Will Include

·         Sound physical and emotional fitness to suit shift work and physical nature of the job.
